Learning Through Real-World Experience
One experience that has helped me grow the most as a marketing student was my internship at MBM Design, an interior design company. When I first started my internship, I was excited to gain real-world marketing experience, but I also realized that working in a professional environment was different from completing projects in a classroom. One experience that stood out to me was going with my supervisor to meet with a client and discuss plans for their project. Being able to sit in on the meeting gave me the opportunity to see how important communication and professionalism are when working directly with clients. I listened to how ideas were discussed, how questions were answered, and how my supervisor made sure the client's needs were understood. This experience taught me that marketing is not only about creating advertisements or social media content. It is also about understanding people, communicating effectively, and building relationships. I was able to connect what I have learned in my marketing classes about customer needs and communication to an actual business situation. I also became more comfortable being in a professional setting and learned the importance of paying attention, asking questions, and being willing to learn. My internship has helped me become more confident in my abilities and has shown me that some of the most valuable learning experiences happen outside of the classroom. Whether I am creating marketing materials, working on a project, or interacting with clients, I have learned to approach each experience with an open mind and a willingness to improve. This experience is something I will carry with me throughout my future career because it showed me the importance of being adaptable, communicating well, and always looking for opportunities to learn.
